Pelicans Set to Sponsor 2008 USSSA World Series

The Pensacola Pelicans have announced that they will be the title sponsor of the 2008 USSSA 9AA-13AA World Series. This is the first year the Pelicans will sponsor the national tournament which will be held at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Pace, FL, July 13-20. It is expected that the event will usher in an estimated 4,000 people from out of town into the local Pensacola area economy.

All 130 plus teams are scheduled to attend the Opening Ceremonies which will take place at Pelican Park on Sunday, July 13 at 3 p.m. Ceremonies will include team introductions, guest speakers, and a pin trading ceremony. Following the ceremony, everyone is encouraged to stay for the Pelicans baseball game where the first 1,000 little leaguers in uniform will receive a limited edition Pelicans World Series Trading Pin.

"This is a great event for the Pensacola area as the World Series is scheduled to bring in over 130 teams from around the nation," said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "That's roughly 4,000 people sleeping in hotels, eating in restaurants, and spending money in the local economy."

On Wednesday, July 16, Pelican players will be conducting the skills competition portion of the World Series and winners will receive their awards at the team social later that evening at the Pelicans game.

"This has been a very successful event the USSSA puts on every year for youth baseball," adds Nunnari. "The players and family will have a unique experience this year of having their opening ceremonies and social held at a professional baseball stadium."

The Pelicans begin a six-game home stand Friday, July 11. Promotions and giveaways include Baseball Card Giveaway Night, Camo Visor Giveaway Night, Kids Club Sunday, Mutt Monday ($1 hot dogs), Tuesday Madness (ticket, all-you-can eat and drink $15), and Family Night (ticket, hot dog, Pepsi $10).
