
Carter, Markray Win Weekly Accolades

DURHAM, NC - PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the American Association, has selected Grand Prairie AirHogs INF Brandon Carter and Shreveport Sports RHP Thad Markray as the American Association Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
Carter played in six games this past week for the first place AirHogs. The Sacramento, CA native batted .588 with one home run, five RBI, 10 hits and seven runs scored. Carter also collected three doubles, stole three bases, slugged .941 and had an on-base percentage of .611. On the season, he is hitting .293 with four home runs, 29 RBI, 46 hits and 14 doubles.
The 25-year-old was a 40th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004. Carter played two plus seasons in the Dodgers farm system before joining Reno of the Golden League in 2006. Last season, he played with Anderson of the South Coast League where Carter batted .295 with four home runs and 22 RBI.
Markray hurled a complete game five-hitter in the 4-1 win over the El Paso Diablos this past Friday night. He allowed only one earned run and a walk while fanning 10 batters. Currently, Markray is 6-3 with a 4.13 ERA in 11 starts for the Sports. The 28-year-old is tied for second in the American Association with three complete games, third with 63 strikeouts and fourth with 76 1/3 innings pitched.
The Shreveport native was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round of the 1997 draft. Markray was in the Reds organization for five years. He also played in the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals farm systems along with Alexandria and Shreveport for a previous season.
