LINCOLN, NE -- Sioux City lost a couple of tough games to the Saltdogs, 4-1 in Game 1 and 4-3 in 8 innings in the nightcap at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.

The X's took a 1-0 lead in Game 1 on a RBI double by Chad Gabriel but the lead would not last.

Dusty Bergman would strand the bases loaded in the 2nd and the 3rd but in the 4th Lincoln would send 9 men to the plate and score 4 runs to take a 4-1 lead.

The Explorers would get no more than 1 baserunner on the rest of Game One. Jarrett Gardner went the distance to get the win while Bergman tied an Explorers record with his 11th loss of the season.

In Game Two, the X's scored 2 runs in the 2nd when Tug Gillingham's grounder went between Mario Delgado's legs to score 2 runs. Lincoln would come back in the bottom of the 2nd, filling the bases against Nick Singleton, when Jonny Kaplan hit a 2 out double, clearing the bases and giving the Dogs a 3-2 lead.

Singleton would settle down and allow just 2 baserunners the rest of the night, striking an Explorers season high 10 batters.

In the top of the 7th, Lincoln would gift wrap another run. Ryan Dittfurth would hit Dustin Jones with a pitch to lead off the inning and Derek Schermerhorn would bunt him to 2nd. That would be it for Dittfurth; in came Benny Cepeda and the Lincoln closer would walk Tug Gillingham, strike out Jason Tuttle, but walk Nick McCoola and then walk Alex Llanos with the bases loaded to bring in the tying run.

However, Lincoln would win it off of Ty Marotz in the bottom of the 8th on a suicide squeeze bunt by Joe Dempsy scoring Shawn McGill and the Saltdogs swept the doubleheader, dropping the X's to a 4-4 mark in the 2nd half.

Juan Camacho had 3 hits in the doubleheader, scoring 2 runs. Gabriel went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a RBI in game 1.

The X's will try and rebound Wednesday night against Lincoln and will send their All-Star Paige Dumont to the mound while Lincoln will answer with their ace Ryan Trytten. Game time is 7:05 with coverage on 1360 KSCJ and xsbaseball.com.
