Fort Worth Cats News Release

Nelson Teilon's seventh-inning homer gave the Cats a lead they would never relinquish in a 5-3 win over Pensacola Monday night at LaGrave Field.

In a back-and-forth game, the Cats took the first lead in the third inning when Brian Fryer circled the bases on an inside-the-park homer to right on a ball that slipped past right-fielder Josh Morgan.

In the fourth, Pelican's DH Rafael Alvarez hit an opposite-field homer high on to the berm in left to knot the game 1-1.

Fryer's sacrifice fly in the fifth made it a 2-1 Fort Worth lead, but the Pelicans scored twice more in the sixth on RBI singles from Francisco Leandro and Alvarez to take a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Charles Carter doubled with two outs, Osiel Flores singled before Aaron Sisk's RBI single tied the game 3-3. Then, in the seventh, Jake Gautreau drew a one-out walk before Nelson Teilon's line-drive homer to left gave Fort Worth a lead for good.

Matt Reilly (1-2) earned the win after working a scoreless seventh inning. Brian Martin and Jon Hunton also posted scoreless frames with Hunton notching his 14th save of the season by closing out the game in the ninth.

Reliever Donny Langdon (1-2) took the loss for Pensacola as he permitted two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Cats' starter Tim Haines, making a spot-start for the third time this year, permitted just three runs on six hits in six innings pitched and received a no-decision.

The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. as All-Star left-hander Pedro Flores takes the hill against Pensacola southpaw Zach Cline.
