The first place Myrtle Beach Pelicans (27-14), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, have won 10 of their last 11 games and take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks (18-23) Saturday in the middle game of a three-game series. Right-hander Nick Martinez (4-2, 2.72) battles righty Kyle Smith (2-1, 1.93). First pitch at Frawley Stadium is slated for 6:05 p.m. EST.

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

YESTERDAY ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans clobbered the Wilmington Blue Rocks 12-0 Friday in the team's most one-sided win of the season. Royce Bolinger hit a three-run home run in support of Alec Asher, who threw six shutout innings en route to his fourth win. Blowout - It was the largest margin of victory for the Birds since a 16-3 win against Salem on July 1, 2012. It was the team's largest shutout victory since prior to 2005. The Birds had a 10-0 shutout win in 2008.

ROAD TRIP! ... The Pelicans are 3-1 on the current road swing and have averaged 8.75 runs during the four games. In the team's last three games, the Birds have outscored their opponents 33-5. In the last eight days, the Birds have matched a season-high with 12 runs, including in the last two games.

THE BIG FIVE ... The Pelicans five main starters have combined to post a 3.24 earned run average this season. The Pelicans have three starters currently in the league's Top 10: Luke Jackson (No. 5 - 2.48) Alec Asher (No. 6 - 2.70) and Nick Martinez (No. 7 - 2.72). Victor Payano is second in the league with 50 strikeouts. Other than two spot starts from Joe Van Meter, the "big five" has started every game this season.

STREAKING ... Patrick Cantwell's nine-game hitting streak is the second longest in the Carolina League. Lynchburg's David Rohm has hit safely in 11 straight games. Royce Bolinger holds the third longest active streak at eight games.

UP NEXT ... The Pelicans return home for a "Team Tuesday" on May 21st - the first 1,000 fans will receive a Rafael Furcal poster presented by Sheriar Press and 100.3 The Team. Wednesday will be a Wiener Wednesday while Thirsty Thursday will celebrate the release of Hangover 3.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
