Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 18, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash made it two come-from-behind wins in a row by knocking off the Potomac Nationals 4-3 in 10 innings on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Trailing 3-2 entering the ninth, an error by Potomac (22-20) allowed Mark Haddow to reach with one out. A failed pick-off resulted in another error, allowing Haddow to move into scoring position. One out later, he was standing on third when Matt Grace uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Haddow to come home and tie things up for Winston-Salem (20-21).
Brandon Hardin (1-0) retired the Nationals in order in the top of the 10th inning, giving him three scoreless innings on the night. His tremendous relief allowed the Dash to walk off winners in the last of the 10th.
Richie Mirowski (3-3) came out of the Nationals' bullpen and retired the first two he faced before giving up a triple to Adam Heisler. Joey DeMichele then lined one right back through the box to plate Heisler and give the Dash their second walk-off win of the season, both coming on walk-off hits by DeMichele.
The Dash mustered their fifth last at-bat triumph thus far this season. Winston-Salem also won its 12th straight home game against the P-Nats. Since BB&T Ballpark opened in 2010, Winston is 25-7 versus the Nationals in the Triad.
Winston-Salem came into the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-0 and without a hit in six innings against Potomac starter Robbie Ray. The first hit against Ray came off the bat of Jeremy Farrell. Two batters later, Rangel Ravelo singled to the opposite field to put the Dash on the board for the first time and ended Ray's night. Facing Grace, Grant Buckner followed Ravelo's run-producing single with one of his own, cutting the lead down to one.
Winston starter Bryan Blough was solid again tonight, tossing his second consecutive quality start against the Nationals. The righty went seven innings, giving up all three Potomac runs. Blough is now tied for the team lead in quality starts with four.
The Dash will go for the sweep of their three-game series with the Nationals Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Righty Myles Jaye (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will be on the mound for Winston-Salem, while Potomac will go with fellow righty Rob Gilliam (0-0, 2.25 ERA). Coverage begins at 1:45 with the Pregame Dash, and first pitch is set for 2.
