Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans have signed three new players to their roster this week: left-handed pitcher Adam Brandenburg, outfielder Adam Darby, and catcher Lou Palmisano.
Adam Darby comes to the Pelicans fresh off an All-American 2009 season with Harding University in Arkansas. The left-handed hitter set school records with 16 homeruns and 64 RBI for the Bisons in 2009. In his professional debut on July 2, Darby recorded a hit in his very first at-bat. Last night he went 2-5 with two runs scored. The right-fielder stands 6 feet tall and weighs 205. He is part of a defense that includes Lou Palmisano.
Lou Palmisano joined the Pelicans in Fort Worth and made his Pelicans debut behind the plate last night. The 6'1" 185-pound righty started 2009 with the Sioux City Explorers, and came to Pensacola as part of a trade that sent Luis Bautista to Sioux City. The 26 year old catcher was drafted in the third round of 2003's amateur entry draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He spent 2006 and 2007 in double-A with the Huntsville Stars, hitting 11 homers, 22 doubles, and 63 RBI in 2007. Pamisano will catch for the Pelicans' most recent addition, LHP Adam Brandenburg.
Brandenburg will make his first professional start since 2007 tonight in Fort Worth. The 6'5" southpaw pitched for the St. Paul Saints in 2007 and was a teammate of Pelicans' pitching coach, Justin Lord. Brandenburg was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 21st round of 2003 after playing college ball at Kennesaw State University. Born in Atlanta, GA in 1981, Brandenburg's 2007 record was 6-4, and his 4.22 ERA was a shade lower than his five-year career ERA of 4.39.
These players, along with Lester Contreras, bring the Pelicans roster to 21 active players, including 11 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and three outfielders. To make room for these additions, the Pelicans put RHP Bubba Nelson on the Inactive List July 3, outfielder Rafael Alvarez on the Disabled List retroactive to June 28, and released catcher Justin Humphries.
