AirHogs battle for victory over Canaries

Grand Prairie, TX. In front of 4,848 fans on the Fourth of July, the AirHogs fought hard to even the series at one, topping the Canaries 6-5.

Luke Prihoda picked up his third win of the year pitching three and a third scoreless innings in relief allowing only one hit and striking out three. Ryan Grant was struck with his second loss of the season.

Grand Prairie got on the board in the first when Brandon Carter got on by way of a bunt single and then stole second. Cesar Nicolas followed with a line drive single into right field to score Carter for his 43rd RBI of the season.

Sioux Falls would tie the game the very next inning when Trevor Lahorn singled past a diving Brandon Carter and advanced to second on a wild pitch. J.D. Reininger grounded out to first advancing Lawhorn to third. Patrick Reilly singled to right to score Lawhorn to knot the game at one.

The AirHogs would gain the lead back in the second as J.B. Tucker led off the inning by doubling down the left field line. In his first at-bat as an AirHog, Frasier Holmes tripled into the right field corner to score Tucker and give Grand Prairie back the lead at 2-1. Aaron Garza then grounded out to third scoring Holmes to give the ‘Hogs a 3-1 advantage. They would tack on two more runs in the third when Ron Fenwick singled up the middle. Back-to-back hit batters loaded the bases and Aaron Garza singled in front of the left fielder to score two runs and push the AirHog lead to four.

In the fourth the Canaries would fight back and tie the game at five. J.D. Reininger began the inning by doubling down the left field line and Kyle Eveland followed with a single to put runners at the corners with no outs. Patrick Reilly singled home Reininger before Ken Lup doubled him along with Eveland home to cut the AirHog lead to one making it 5-4. Tim Hutting then singled to left and Anthonson singled to right to score Lup and tie the game at five.

The AirHogs would recapture the lead for good in the seventh when Javier Brito led off the inning with a double off the centerfield wall. After back to back strike outs by Ron Fenwick and Chad Gabriel, J.B. Tucker singled to center to score at give Grand Prairie the 6-5 advantage.

Aaron Garza, Cesar Nicolas, and J.B. Tucker had three hits apiece while Garza knocked in three, and Cesar and J.B. each had an RBI of their own. Patrick Reilly had two hits and two RBI for Sioux Falls.
