Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
LHP Nick Haughian (8-5, 3.44) at RHP Justin Grimm (3-2, 3.44)
EIGHT WAS ENOUGH: The Pelicans had their highest single-inning run total in the third inning of last night's win over the Keys, plating eight against starter Rick Zagone and reliever Justin Moore. Down 4-1, Jonathan Roof singled and when Andres James bunted him over, Zagone's throw to first hit James, setting the Birds up with runners at the corners. Jared Bolden singled in the first run before Ryan Strausborger walked to load the bases. Jared Prince doubled in a pair to tie the game and after Vinny DiFazio walked to load the bases again, David Paisano doubled in two more to put the Pelicans in front 6-4. The first seven batters reached base against Zagone, who departed after getting the first out on a Jared Hoying foul pop. Moore came in and induced a fielder's choice groundout from Santiago Chirino and Roof followed with a grounder to third that looked like it would end the inning. Dale Mollenhauer's throw to first was high, allowing two more runs to score. The ugliness continued when James reached on a Manny Machado fielding error at shortstop. Bolden doubled in Roof for the inning's eighth run and James was nabbed off of third base on the play to end the onslaught at 9-4. The eight-run inning passed the Pelicans' output from the ninth inning on April 16th in Lynchburg, when they scored seven runs to turn a 4-3 lead into a laugher.
HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE: The season series between the Pelicans and Keys has been one-sided in favor of the home team. The host club is 14-3 in the season set, with Frederick going 8-2 at Harry Grove Stadium and Myrtle Beach going 6-1 at BB&T Coastal Field. The Pelicans dropped their first home game against the Keys 5-1 on April 29, but they've won six straight since then.
EVERYBODY LOVES 'PAI': David Paisano drove in four runs last night, becoming the ninth Pelican to knock in that many in a game this season. The Cumana, Venezuela native is the first with four RBIs in a game since Vinny DiFazio in his two-homer game in Kinston last Tuesday. The only Pelicans with more in a game this year are Ryan Strausborger, who sent in five in a twinbill opener against Potomac on April 27, and Zach Zaneski, who tied a franchise record with seven in a 20-6 rout in Potomac on May 3.
