Keys Can't Hang On

August 9, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

A back and forth duel ended with Myrtle Beach 1B Jared Bolden delicately lobbing a single to bring home the game's winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Keys absorbed a tough defeat 6-5 on Tuesday night. The loss is the Keys sixth in their last seven games.

Tied at 5-apiece in the ninth inning, the Keys loaded the bases but failed to score. Frederick left 11 men on-base in the game, four at third base. Frederick is 1-7 at BB&T Coastal Field in 2011.

Myrtle Beach got their turn and DH David Paisano singled to leadoff the inning. LF Jared Hoying then put down a bunt. Gloving coming in off the mound was Keys pitcher Randy Henry who looked to second and then turned to fire to first but his throw was just late. A sac bunt and intentional walk later it was Bolden up with the bases loaded.

Frederick grabbed the lead in the first inning when 2B Jonathan Schoop doubled and then scored on a two-out Aaron Baker double. Schoop and Baker each doubles twice in the game respectively.

The big swing of the bat for Frederick though came with two outs in the sixth inning. With RF Steve Bumbry at the plate and two on and two down, Bumbry hit his seventh home run of the year, into the second row of bleachers beyond the grasp of a leaping Hoying. The Keys had a 5-3 lead.

Myrtle Beach scored twice in the seventh inning to tie the game up.

The Keys try to avoid the sweep in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, August 10th at 7:05 p.m. On the hill will be LHP Jake Pettit. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source.

Frederick returns home to face Winston-Salem for a weekend four-game series beginning Thursday, August 11th. Friday, the 12th will be Fritos Family Friday with Wrestling Great Jerry "The King" Lawler in attendance signing autographs throughout the game for free.
