LAST TIME OUT - In the series finale of a four-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats at the beach, the visitor's pounded the Pelicans, 8-2, to take the series three games to one. Pelicans pitchers allowed a season-high 17 hits to the Cats bats and Birds starter Kelvin Villa watched his two-game winning streak come to a close. Three Pelicans collected multi-hit nights to pace the offense. 3B Van Pope went 2-4 with a pair of doubles, RF Steven Doetsch was 2-4 with an RBI and 1B Greg Creek added a 2-4 effort with an RBI.

PELICANS WING - Today RHP Stephen Russell will make his first start of the season after appearing in seven games out of the pen with the Pelicans. Each of the last two times that Stephen has stepped on the rubber he has earned a win. On 6/4 he tossed two scoreless innings of relief and earned a victory in the Pelicans 5-2 win over the Nats. He has not pitched more than 2.1 innings this season (5/18 at WIL). The 6'6 righty out of Las Vegas, Nevada joined the Pelicans on May 9th after starting the 2006 season in A-Rome. In Rome he was 3-0 with one save and a 2.25 ERA through nine appearances out of the bullpen. Overall he has struck out 31 and has walked just five hitters this season between MB and Rome. In 2005 he spent time with the GCL Braves, Danville, and Rome and logged a 1-3 mark in 15 games, including three starts.

ALL-TIME VS. THE K-TRIBE - The Kinston Indians are the only team in the CL that the Pelicans have an all-time losing record against. They enter tonight's series opener with a 50-93 all-time mark against the Tribe. The Birds have won just one season series against Kinston, in 2000, when they went 12-8 against their Southern Division archrivals.

THIS YEAR VS. KINSTON - Myrtle Beach is 1-2 against the K-Tribe this year after dropping two of three at Kinston in April. The Pelicans are hitting .218 with one homer and one stolen base against the Tribe. The Indians are hitting .354 (the highest of any team against MB) with three HR's and six stolen bags. The Indians have outscored the Pelicans 27-12 this year in three games.

BROWN DELIVERED FOR KINSTON - Kinston's Jordan Brown was 7-13 (.538), with four RBI, two doubles, and three runs scored against the Pelicans in the first series.

FULLY "LOAD"ED - Since 5/20 OF Carl Loadenthal is 20 for his last 46 at the plate, hitting .435. During that stretch he's lifted his average 100 points from .211 to .311.

VAN-TASTIC - 3B Van Pope's two doubles last night vs. LYN gave him the team-lead in two-baggers this season with 15. Through eight games in June he has five multi-hit games after recording eight multi-hit efforts through the first two months of the year.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN - The Pelicans went 6-1 on their last road trip after posting a 4-17 record away from home before that trip. The Pelicans are hitting .238 with 19 HR's in road games, while they are batting .263 with 16 homers at CFF.

RANDY THE DANDY INGLE & THE SALLY STARS - Former Pelicans manager Randy Ingle was named as the skipper for the South Atlantic League All-Star Game after guiding his Rome Braves to a 38-21 record so far this year. Five Rome Braves were selected to the all-star team...Pitchers, Jo Jo Reyes and Chris Vines along with C Max Ramirez, 1B Kala Ka'aihue, and 3B Eric Campbell.
