LAST TIME OUT - They played two on Tuesday night at CFF and the Pelicans came away with a split of the twinbill. In game one the Birds used a suicide squeeze bunt laid down by SS Robert Marcial with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th to push past the Cats, 7-6. Game two saw the two teams carry a tie into the final inning of play for the second straight game, but the Hillcats plated four in the 7th highlighted by a two-run double from DH Neil Walker to hand the Birds a 6-2 loss.

PELICANS WING - LHP Kelvin Villa (3-1, 1.71) will make his 6th start of the season tonight. The lefty from the Dominican has not allowed a run in 12 straight innings and has earned a win in each of his last two starts. Villa has logged two straight six-inning scoreless performances and has struck out 13 total in those 12 unblemished frames. His 1.71 ERA ranks third lowest in the Carolina League. In his last outing, 6/2, at Potomac he picked up a victory in the Pelicans 6-0 blanking of the Nationals. He tossed six scoreless inning and gave up just four hits, while walking one and fanning six. Last season Kelvin pitched to a 2-10 record in 19 starts with Myrtle Beach. His career ERA before coming to the beach last year was 1.63 in 35 outings in the Braves system.

ALL-TIME VS. THE HILLCATS - Myrtle Beach has posted an 81-66 all-time record against Lynchburg. The Cats have won two of the last three season series against the Pelicans including last season when the Hillcats took the season series 11-9.

THIS YEAR VS. LYNCHBURG- The Birds are 4-4 against the Hillcats this year. The Pelicans enter tonight's game hitting .270 with five HR's against the Hillcats. Lynchburg is hitting .294 with six HR's vs. MB. The Cats have outscored the Birds 48-44.

GIVE ME SPEED - The Pelicans are 20 for 22 in stolen base attempts this season against the Hillcats. 2B J.C. Holt is a perfect 6 for 6 and, including three in this series.

BANGED UP! - Today the Pelicans received RHP Brad Nelson from Extended Spring Training to fill a void left by LHP Matt Harrison, who was placed on the DL with a blister on his finger. Nelson was selected by the Braves in the 10th round of the `03 draft and has recorded an 11-7 record in three full seasons in the Braves system. In `04 his eight saves between Danville and Rome ranked 6th in the organization. Harrison goes on the shelf after posting the most wins on staff with a 7-3 record and a 2.67 ERA.

YOUNG STARS - OF Matt Young brings a four-game hitting streak into tonight's series finale. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, hitting .366 (11-30) with nine runs scored during that stretch.

BIG SHOT BIXLER - All three of Lynchburg SS Brian Bixler's hits in this series have been home runs. He hit two on Monday night, and blasted on more in the nightcap of the doubleheader. He entered the series with just two HR's all year.

CARRYING THE "LOAD" - OF Carl Loadenthal is 6-10 in this series vs. the Hillcats, and is hitting .471 with one home run, four RBI and three stolen bases this year against the Cats. Loady has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. and has raised his average from .215 to .314 over that stretch.

PRODUCTIVE POPE - 3B Van Pope has knocked in a team-high 9 RBI in June.
