Carolina Mudcats News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - The Carolina Mudcats could not hold a late two-run lead, and fell to Myrtle Beach 5-4 in 11 innings on Saturday night at TicketReturn.com Field.
The Mudcats (6-4, 38-42) led 4-2 entering the eighth inning. After Michael Goodnight dealt another quality start, two runs over seven innings, Carolina handed the ball to Jose Flores. The right-hander had been dominant through the season, but surrender two runs on three hits in the swing inning that tied the score 4-4.
Both teams threatened through the ninth and tenth, but could not push a run across. In the eleventh, Myrtle Beach (7-3, 43-37) loaded the bases with one out for Odubel Herrera. The second baseman entered Saturday with two game-winners against Carolina, and made it a third with a sac-fly to center field for the clincher.
Herrera had a bases-loaded single in the third inning for an RBI.
Carolina built a 4-2 lead behind two RBI from Tony Wolters in the fifth and sixth.
Tyler Holt lined his Carolina League-leading seventh triple of the year into right field. Anthony Gallas finished with a pair of doubles.
The Mudcats return to Five County Stadium on Sunday, July 1, to host the Potomac Nationals at 4 p.m. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
