Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 30, 2012) - A pair of four-run innings carried the Dash to an 8-2 win over Frederick Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem (4-6, 48-31-1) broke a scoreless game in the sixth inning. Carlos Sanchez doubled to drive in Michael Johnson. Trayce Thompson drew a two-out walk to bring Cyle Hankerd to the plate. The right-fielder flashed his powerful bat with a three-run home run, his second three-run blast in four days, to make it 4-0.
The Dash put the game out of reach in the eighth. With two men aboard, Hankerd came to the plate but was intentionally walked to load the bases. Juan Silverio made Frederick pay with a bases-clearing double into left-center field for a 7-1 lead. David Herbek followed with a run-producing triple to cap Winston's scoring.
Frederick (5-5, 32-48) was held to three hits and two runs. Garabez Rosa knocked a solo home run in the seventh to make it a 4-1 game. Rosa came to the plate in the ninth inning with two men on base and brought a run home after he hit a ball that was misplayed at third base and rolled into the outfield.
Matt Heidenreich delivered another strong outing to pick up his eighth win of the season. Heidenreich went seven innings, allowing three hits and a lone run to score. The run came in the sixth, ending his 15-inning scoreless streak.
Frederick's scheduled starter Kyle Simon was traded to Philadelphia before the game, so Trent Howard made a spot start for the Keys. The left-hander delivered five scoreless innings while striking out five batters.
The Dash begin a three-game series in Lynchburg Sunday night. Right-hander Steve McCray (2-0, 2.64 ERA) gets the start. The Hillcats counter with right-hander J.R. Graham (8-1, 2.60 ERA).
Winston-Salem returns home on July 4 to begin a six-game homestand. For more information or to purchase tickets for the homestand, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or log on to wsdash.com.
