Herrera Walks off Mudcats in 11, 5-4

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, came from behind to beat the Carolina Mudcats for the third time this season, 5-4, in 11 innings at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Down 4-2 in the eighth innings, the Pelicans rallied for two runs, then left the winning run at third base in both the ninth and tenth innings. Finally the Birds came through in the 11th against JD Reichenbach, with Odubel Herrera delivering a sac fly to centerfield, scoring Vinny DiFazio, who led off the inning with a single. The RBI for Herrera was his second of the game and fifth of the series. He now has 13 of his 25 runs knocked in against the Mudcats this season.
It's not the first time Herrera has terrorized Carolina. He also delivered game winning hits back on both April 19th and 20th in Zebulon, NC. Herrera hit a ninth inning homerun on the 19th and doubled in two runs on the 20th to key comeback efforts. The win marks the third time Myrtle Beach has come back when trailing after seven, all three instances against Carolina.
The Pelicans forced extras with an dramatic eighth inning comeback. Santiago Chirino and Josh Richmond reached to lead off the inning with a single a double respectively. The duo were the first to face reliever Jose Flores, who relieved starter Michael Flores after seven strong innings. A Flores balk brought in Chirino to make it 4-3, and three batters after Richmond doubled he scored on a bloop single to center from Christian Villanueva. It was 4-4.
Myrtle Beach Scored its other two runs in the third inning, the only frame the Pelicans touched Carolina's Michael Goodnight. Herrera delivered an RBI single in the inning while Hanser Alberto hit a sac fly to right. The Pelicans led 2-1 at that point. Goodnight went seven strong, allowing two runs and facing the minimum in five of his frames.
Pelicans starter Luke Jackson earned a no decision despite going six and allowing three runs, a quality start in his home debut for Myrtle Beach. Matt West allowed one run in relief and Ben Henry allowed one hit over three innings to earn the win.
