
Pelicans Drop Finale 6-1 to Complete Dash's Brooming

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were dropped Monday 6-1 by Winston Salem in front of 4,923 fans as the Dash finished off a sweep of the Birds from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. It marked the first time in recorded club history (dating back to 2005) that the Pelicans were swept by the same team three times in a single season.
The Dash (62-39, 21-10) struck first in the third inning against Pelicans (46-53, 12-18) starter Alex Lange (6-7) with a two-run single by Mitch Roman, plating Daniel Gonzalez and Zach Remillard.
In the bottom half of the inning, Myrtle Beach answered right back as Andruw Monasterio scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Alamo , making it 2-1 Dash.
Winston-Salem added on in the sixth with a Zach Remillard RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Luis Gonzalez to make it 4-1. A passed ball brought in Daniel Gonzalez later in the inning before Blake Rutherford collected a run-scoring, infield single, increasing the Dash advantage to 6-1. Over the three-game sweep, the Dash outscored the Birds 14-0 in the fifth and sixth innings.
John Parke (3-1) earned the win by just allowing one run over his seven innings while striking out one and walking three.
In the loss, Jared Young reached three times and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Pelicans head to Zebulon next to begin a four-game, three-day set with the Carolina Mudcats. The series starts with a twin bill at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. RHP Tyson Miller (8-6, 3.62 ERA) starts for Myrtle Beach in the series opener against Carolina RHP Alec Bettinger (1-1, 2.78 ERA) while the Birds send RHP Erick Leal (0-1, 0.76 ERA) to the mound to start against RHP Conor Harber (4-4, 2.23 ERA) in the second contest.
