TONIGHT: The Mudcats conclude a three game road trip tonight with game three of a three game series versus the Lynchburg Hillcats at City Stadium. Tonight's game is the 10th of 13 total meetings between the two teams this season. Carolina won last night's game 6-5 to even the current series at 1-1. The Mudcats, however, recently dropped three of four to the Hillcats late last week between 7/13 and 7/16 and trail the overall season series 5-4.
ICYMI: Daniel Brown struck out seven over three innings, both Ryan Aguilar and Joantgel Segovia had three hits, and Luke Barker earned his league leading 15th save as the Mudcats defeated the Hillcats 6-5 in ten innings in a rain plagued, marathon game at City Stadium in Lynchburg on Sunday night.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Daniel Brown matched a career high with 7 SO over 3.0 innings in last night's game. He last struck out 7 in a game one year ago today on 7/23/17 while pitching for Low-A Wisconsin in a game versus West Michigan... Pat McInerney went 1-for-3 with a run, one walk and a double in last night's 6-5, extra-innings victory. McInerney has hit safely in three straight games and has had a double in each of his last three games.
STARTING OFF: RHP Braden Webb has tonight's series finale start in Lynchburg. Webb is currently 5-7 with a 4.14 ERA over 18 starts this season. He has also totaled 88 strikeouts (6th in the CL), 49 walks (4th most in CL) and a .240 average against over 87.0 innings this season. Webb last pitched on July 18 versus Winston-Salem and ended up with a no-decision despite working through a quality start (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO)... Webb has faced the Hillcats twice this season and is 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA (9.0 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 12 SO) against them.
WHERE THEY RANK: RHP Conor Harber is currently 1st in the Carolina League in earned run average (2.23) and in batting average against (.209)... LHP Cam Roegner is currently 2nd in the Carolina League in earned run average (2.26), 3rd in innings pitched (103.1), tied for 3rd in wins (8), 4th in WHIP (1.16) and 4th among starters in fewest baserunners/9ip (10.71)... RHP Braden Webb is currently tied for 4th in the CL in most walks (49), 4th among CL starters in lowest batting average against (.240) and 4th among starters in highest SO/9ip ratio (9.10)... RHP Luke Barker leads the Carolina League in saves (15), games (35) and games finished (27). Barker is also tied for 3rd among CL relievers in lowest batting average (.193), 5th in highest strikeouts/9ip (9.06) and 5th in lowest BB/9ip ratio (2.08).
OF LATE: The Mudcats are currently 6-8 over their last 14 games and since seeing their season high five winning streak (7/2-7/6) come to an end on July 7.
STELLAR D: Weston Wilson has been charged with only three errors this season and owns an overall .993 fielding percentage while playing 34 games at 1B, 13 games at 2B, 14 games at 3B, 2 games at SS, 25 games in LF and 9 games in RF this season... The Mudcats are currently 2nd in the CL in both team fielding (.978) and team caught stealing efficiency (.394).
TOPS IN JULY: Weston Wilson is batting .392/.434/.635 in July and is currently 3rd in the CL in OPS (1.039) this month. Wilson is also 2nd in the CL in average (.392), 2nd in hits (29), 2nd in RBI (20) and 3rd in total bases in July... Cooper Hummel is batting .305/.446/.593 in July and is currently 4th in the CL in OPS (1.039) this month. Hummel is also 3rd in extra-base hits (11), tied for 1st in doubles (8), tied for 3rd in walks (14) and 3rd in OBP in .446 this month... Conor Harber is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA over four starts in July and is 2nd in the CL in ERA (1.59) this month.
MUDDIES ON THE POND: The Carolina offense is currently last in the CL when batting with runners on base (.235 / .671 OPS), last when batting with runners in scoring position (.231 / .677 OPS), 8th when batting with runners in scoring position with 2-outs in an inning. (.223 / .679 OPS) and 8th when batting with the bases loaded (.195 / .570 OPS).
HITS AND Ks: The Carolina offense has totaled 171 more strikeouts than hits (938 SO, 767 H) so far this season. Carolina's difference in strikeouts over hits is currently the 6th largest in MiLB. The previous league record (per the 2017 Carolina League Media Guide) was 1,198 strikeouts and was set by the 1990 Lynchburg Hillcats.
