Winston-Salem Dash News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Behind seven strong innings from John Parke, the Dash beat Myrtle Beach 6-1 on Monday night at TicketReturn.Com Field to clinch a series sweep. With the win, Winston-Salem (21-10, 62-39) finishes its six-game road trip with a 4-2 record.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, Winston-Salem jumped in front in the third inning. Following a leadoff single from Daniel Gonzalez and a walk from Zach Remillard , Myrtle Beach (12-18, 46-54) starter Alex Lange (6-7) was able to record two outs. But then, Blake Rutherford walked, loading the bases for Mitch Roman. On a 2-1 pitch, Roman promptly lined a single through the left side to bring home two runs, giving the Dash a 2-0 lead.

However, the Pelicans were able to get a run back against John Parke (3-1) in the home half of the inning when Andruw Monasterio singled, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly.

From there, Parke cruised. The southpaw allowed just two more hits in his remaining four innings, tying a season-high with seven innings pitched to pick up his third win with the Dash. Of Parke's six outings with Winston-Salem, four of them have been quality starts.

The Dash expanded their lead in the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits and three hit batsmen. Following a one-out single from Yermin Mercedes, Lange hit back-to-back batters to load the bases, prompting the Pelicans to turn to the bullpen. Remillard served the first offering he saw from Ryan Kellogg into left field to bring home Mercedes.

Next, after Ti'Quan Forbes scored on a sacrifice fly from Luis Gonzalez, Laz Rivera was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Winston plated its third run of the inning on a passed ball that allowing Daniel Gonzalez to scamper home from third. Finally, Rutherford hit a dribbler up the first base line that resulted in an infield single to bring home Remillard and give the Dash a 6-1 advantage. Rivera tried to score on the same play, but he was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

After Parke polished off his start with a scoreless seventh inning, Cameron Seitzer and Ian Clarkin tossed back-to-back scoreless frames to secure the win. The Dash pitching staff finished the road trip with a collective ERA of 1.93 in the six games.

Meanwhile, the Dash become the first team to sweep Myrtle Beach three times in a single season in Pelicans recorded history (2005-present). It's Winston-Salem's seventh series sweep of the year, and the fourth on the road.

Winston-Salem returns to BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday to begin a three-game series against the Frederick Keys, with right-hander Luis Martinez (6-4, 4.40 ERA) scheduled to start the series opener for the Dash against Frederick right-hander Cristian Alvarado (9-7, 4.03 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. and fans can catch all the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv, and the TuneIn Radio App.

Tuesday's game is a Free Food Tuesday, with free hot dogs and hamburgers available through the seventh inning.
