Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The 30,805 fans who streamed through the BB&T Coastal Field gates during the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' recently-completely July 2-9 homestand helped establish a new record attendance for a seven-day homestand, the team announced today.

The Pelicans hosted seven games over eight days for their first homestand of the 2009 season's second half. The seven home games included the club's first-ever Fourth of July series at BB&T Coastal Field. From July 2-5, the Pelicans welcomed the Salem Red Sox to the beach and packed the schedule with a myriad of promotions. In addition to special Fourth of July Postgame Fireworks on both Saturday and Sunday nights, the team had special giveaways with a Pelicans Patriotic Baseball on Friday, July 3 and miniature American flags on Saturday, July 4. Baseball fans embraced the national pastime in record fashion for that series, posting the second-highest attendance numbers for any four-game set in franchise history with 19,594 coming through the turnstiles over the weekend. On the Fourth alone, 5,681 fans packed BB&T Coastal Field for the first Independence Day game ever in Myrtle Beach.

Pelicans fans continued to flock to the ballpark for a three-game series with the Potomac Nationals from Tuesday, July 7 to Thursday, July 9, turning out for such promotions as the Team Tuesday Poster Series giveaway and the always-popular Thirsty Thursday. Following the record-setting, four-game set with Salem, 11,211 fans attended the Pelicans' three-game set with the Potomac Nationals. Those who saw Thursday's series finale witnessed the Pelicans' first walk-off win of the 2009 season, a 3-2, ten-inning victory over the Nationals.

The Pelicans averaged 4,401 fans per contest over the seven-game stay at BB&T Coastal Field. The 30,805-fan total beat the previous record of 30,173 set from July 31 to August 6, 2008.
