POTOMAC NATIONALS (9-5, 46-35) VS. KINSTON INDIANS (5-9, 32-50)

RHP Adam Carr (0-0, 5.76) vs. RHP Alexander Perez (5-4, 3.04 w/Low-A Lake County)

July 10, 2009 -- 7:00 p.m. Grainger Stadium - Kinston, North Carolina Game #82/Road #46

TODAY: The Potomac Nationals continue their six-game road trip through the Carolinas by playing three with the Kinston Indians from Historic Grainger Stadium. Game one tips off on a Friday night at 7:00 p.m. as the P-Nats look to improve on their league-best 29-16 record on the road against the Indians who are just 15-29 this year from their 60-year-old ballpark. The K-Tribe have fallen on hard times after being swept by Frederick this week and now own the worst overall record in the Carolina League at 32-50 on the year.

This is the first meeting between these two clubs since May 27th when the Indians swept a rain-shortened two-game series with the Nationals from Pfitzner Stadium. Potomac won three one-run contests against Kinston from May 18th-21st and the season-series currently stands tied at 3-3. Each teams' pitching staff has been spectacular with the Indians (2.21 ERA) staff holding a slight lead over the Nationals (2.58 ERA) in terms of team ERA. Entering tonight's action, a combined 33 runs have been scored in six meetings and five of those contests have been decided by just one run.

TODAYS OPPOSING STARTER: RHP Alexander Perez, 19, was signed at the tender age of 17 as a non-drafted Free Agent by the Cleveland Indians on May 10, 2007 out of Managuayabo, Dominican Republic. The 6'2" 156 pound hurler has spent the past two seasons compiling a record of 3-6 with a 3.59 ERA in 23G/19GS for Cleveland's Dominican Summer League and Gulf Coast League squads. In 2008, Perez finished with the 2nd lowest average against (.213) as a starter for the GCL Indians while striking out 49 in 50.2 IP.

Perez began the year with the Low-A Lake County Captains of the South Atlantic League and compiled a record of 5-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 15 starts. He held Captains' opponents to a .223 batting average against and fanned 76 batters compared to 24 walks in 83.0 IP. His most dominating performance came one June 1 when he fanned a career-high 10 while yielding just two hits and an unearned run in a 4-3 victory over West Virginia.
