THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg dropped the rubbermatch of a three-game series with Wilmington with 3-1 loss last night at City Stadium...Tonight is the first game of a three-game series at Winston-Salem and game one of a seven-game road trip...This Hillcats just ended a stretch of 14 out of 17 at home and went just 6-11 over that time...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: This season the Hillcats have a 6-4 record against the Dash and are 2-2 in Winston-Salem...They met last weekend for three games in a row with Winston-Salem winning two of those match-ups, including the lone game played at Wake Forest Baseball Park...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 149-139, but they are 65-76 in the Triad...The Cats and the Dash were both first half champions and have secured a spot in the 2009 Carolina League playoffs...This series completes a stretch of six out of nine games against Winston-Salem...

BETTER NEVER LET IT GO: Last night Lynchburg stranded 12 men on base in their 3-1 loss to Wilmington...In the three game series against the Blue Rocks they stranded a combined 37 base runners and lost two out of the three games...The Hillcats were 5-for-23 (.217) with men in scoring position in the series and 0-for-5 last night...Despite the fact that OF Alex Presley had three hits and three RBI in the series, he also stranded 14 runners on base in the three-game set...

DOUBLE VISION: Lynchburg and Wilmington combined to hit into eight double plays last night, three by the Hillcat and five by the Blue Rocks...The Rocks hit into three unconventional twin killings...Two of them started with a runner getting tagged out in a run down between third base and home plate and ended with another runner getting caught in no man's land...The third strange DP was a pop up well into fair territory in shallow right and a runner got doubled off first base...All three of Lynchburg's double play balls ended innings and they came in three consecutive frames...

EVEN THE LOSERS: The last two games of the series the Hillcats lost both games to a pair of starting pitchers that entered the series with a combined record of 4-16...RHP Alex Caldera was 1-7 on the season and had lost all five of his last five outings prior to Wednesday night...RHP Mario Santiago was 3-9 and had lost four straight decisions before his victory a night ago...

SAD TO SEE THEM GO: OF Jamie Romak went 2-for-4 last night and 6-for-12 in the series against the Blue Rocks at City Stadium...Over the course of three season with Lynchburg he is batting .356 (48-for-135) with 16 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 21 RBI, 23 runs and 18 walks in 37 games versus Wilmington...

FOREIGNER: C Eric Fryer went 0-for-4 last night with a pair of strikeouts...Since coming over from the Yankees to the Pirates organization in a trade for Eric Hinske on June 30th, Fryer has gone 1-for-20 (.050) and is 0-for-18 since getting a hit in his Hillcats debut at Winston-Salem...The move to the Buccos was the second time in less than six months that he had been traded, as he was traded from the Brewers to the Yankees in February...Fryer is also catching and serving as the designated hitter for Lynchburg, after playing the outfield for the majority of the season for the Tampa Yankees...

LEGGIN' ‘EM OUT: INF Jose De Los Santos went 1-for-3 last night with a base hit...His single in the eighth left the infield and was just his eighth hit out of the infield since June 1st...Over that time he is batting .188 (22-for-117) and 14 of his 22 hits have been on the infield...In the series against the Blue Rocks he went 6-for-11 (.546) and four of his hits were on the infield...Previous to that series he was 3-for-33 in his last nine games with three infield hits...

FROM RICHES TO RAGS: INF Jordy Mercer went 0-for-4 last night and is now 3-for-24 (.125) in his last six games...This after he went 10-for-21 (.476) with four multi-hit games, four doubles, a triple, a homer, five RBI and five runs scored...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Justin Edwards was selected in the third round by the White Sox in the 2006 draft out of high school in Orlando, Florida...He made his professional debut that year at the Rookie level with Bristol and went 3-7 with a 5.30 ERA in 12 starts...In 2007 he advanced to full season Low-A Kannapolis and posted a 6-9 record with a 5.79 ERA in 27 games (21 starts) for the Intimidators...After missing all of last season after Tommy John surgery, he returned to Kannapolis this year and went 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA in eight starts before earning a promotion to High-A...With Winston-Salem he has made three starts and has gone 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA...His last start was his first outing against Lynchburg and he allowed just one run in seven innings to earn the win last Friday night at City Stadium...
