Pelicans and Nationals Washed Out
June 13, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - Monday night's opener between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Potomac Nationals at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium has been postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a Tuesday night doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Pelicans-Nationals rainout marks the fourth time this season that the Pelicans have had a game washed away due to inclement weather. Myrtle Beach has gone 4-2 in its three previous doubleheaders this season including a split twinbill between these two clubs at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach on April 27.
For the opener Tuesday afternoon, the Pelicans will send right-hander Justin Grimm (2-0, 0.96) to the hill against Tom Gorzelanny (2-4, 4.25 with Washington), who will make a rehab start for Potomac. The second game features a pair of right-handers as Barret Loux (5-3, 3.75) gets the ball for the Birds and will face Cameron Selik (1-4, 4.11).
After the doubleheader on Tuesday, the Pelicans wrap up the three-game set in Potomac on Wednesday before returning home on Thursday to host the Frederick Keys for the final four games of the first half. Myrtle Beach is closing in on the first-half division title and automatic postseason berth with their magic number down to five. Tickets for all Pelicans home games can be purchased by visiting the BB&T Coastal Field Box office, the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, or by calling (843)918-6000 or (877)918-TIXX.
