Frederick Keys News Release
With its 40th win of the half and 16th of the last 19, the Frederick Keys cemented a 2011 Carolina League Playoff bid with a 5-4 win in Winston-Salem on Monday night. The win clinched the First Half Northern Division Crown after Wilmington fell in Lynchburg earlier 5-0.
Frederick jumped out to an early lead scoring in each of the game's first three innings. By the fourth inning seven of the Keys nine batters had a hit.
The Keys led 5-1 in the third but the lead grew tenuous in the late innings. Winston-Salem pushed home a run in the sixth inning and Dash 1B Andy Wilkins hit a two-out two-run home run to close the lead to 5-4 in the eighth inning.
In for the ninth came closer Sean Gleason who shut the door with a called strike three, stranding the tying runner on second and kicking off the celebration. The save was a Carolina League leading 18th of the year for Gleason.
The Keys are now playoff bound for a second straight year and have won 40 games in the first half for the third time in franchise history.
Game two of the series is Tuesday, June 14th as Oliver Drake will get the start. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem with airtime 6:40 p.m. on 1450-AM The Source.
Frederick returns home for a week long homestand Thursday, June 23rd. For tickets contact the Keys Box Offices at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
