Lancaster Stormers News Release

Jaime Pedroza ended a long day of travel sandwiched between two extra inning games with a two-out homer in the bottom of the 10th inning, sending the Lancaster Barnstormers home with a 1-0 win over the Somerset Patriots in front of 5,393 Monday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win vaulted Lancaster back into first place in the Freedom Division, one-half game ahead of both Somerset and Sugar Land.

Pedroza took a 1-1 pitch from Mike Solbach (0-1) to the Home Run Harbor net in right center for the decisive blow, immediately after cranking a wicked liner foul off the right field barn. It was the fourth homer of the season for the Lancaster shortstop and second game winner. He had not connected since May 6.

It was also the first extra base hit of the night.

Starters J.D. Durbin and Drew Arguello both proved stingy. Arguello scattered eight singles over the first nine innings and did not issue a walk. The left-hander, who did not record an out in his previous start at Clipper Magazine Stadium, fanned only two but kept the ball on the ground all evening. No Lancaster runner made it to third base during Arguello's nine-inning stretch.

Durbin yielded only three hits in a seven-inning stint while walking three and striking out four but found danger twice. In the first, Freddie Bynum chopped a single up the middle, and Freddy Sandoval reached when Pedroza and left fielder Fehlandt Lentini got entangled on his popup. Jesse Hoorelbeke lined a single to right. Bynum attempted to score, but his path to home was blocked by Francisco Hernandez who had Ryan Harvey's perfect throw already in his possession.

The right-hander issued consecutive walks to Hoorelbeke and Jeff Nettles in the fourth. He bounced back to fan Aaron Mathews and coaxed a 5-4-3 double play out of Yusuf Carter to end the threat.

Somerset had another huge opportunity to score in the eighth. Durbin walked Lou Santangelo leading off the inning, and Rex Rundgren greeted Beau Vaughan with a single to right. Jonny Tucker provided the chance to escape, fouling out on a bunt. Vaughan got the next two hitters to end the threat.

Dwayne Pollok tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, but it was Les Walrond (2-0), who fanned Bynum in the 10th, who picked up the win.

Lancaster will host Somerset again on Tuesday evening. Rich Rundles (1-1) gets the nod against right-hander Mike McDonald (1-0). The game will be aired on WLAN, 1390-AM and on WPDC, 1600-AM as well as on 1390wlan.com and the I Heart Radio cell phone app, starting at 6:45.
