Long Island Ducks News Release
(Camden, N.J., May 28, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 8-0 on Monday night in the first game of a four-game series at Campbell's Field.
Matt Esquivel got the Ducks started with a RBI single to center field in the first off Camden starter Mike McGuire. Long Island increased the lead to 4-0 with three more runs in the fourth. Ray Navarrete hit a solo homer, his fourth of the year, while Dan Lyons collected a RBI single, moved to second on the throw home and scored on a pair of Riversharks errors.
The scoring would continue throughout, as the Ducks added single runs in the fifth and eighth along with two in the ninth. A sac fly and a RBI double from Navarrete, a solo homer by Reid Gorecki, and a sac fly off the bat of Shawn Williams did the damage.
That was more than enough for Mike Loree (2-0) to earn the win, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five. McGuire (2-3) took the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on nine hits in four and one-third innings.
Esquivel led the way with four hits, while Gorecki added three. Navarrete's three RBI also set the pace.
Long Island and Camden continue their series on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Campbell's Field.
