SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (July 30, 2015) - Duanel Jones broke a tie game with a two-run single in the eighth inning to help lift the San Antonio Missions, 6-4, over the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday at Wolff Stadium. Victor Payano struck out a season-high nine batters, but for a second consecutive start, the bullpen failed to preserve the lead after his exit.

Frisco jumped ahead in the first inning when Trever Adams scored Preston Beck with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, Pat Cantwell collected an RBI thanks to a fielding miscue from second baseman Taylor Lindsey. A strikeout and a ground out ended the bases loaded threat, but the Riders led 2-0.

Victor Payano cruised through the first four frames, retiring 11 straight, before he hit Yaison Asencio with a pitch to begin the fifth. Duanel Jones worked a walk, and Diego Goris erased the 2-0 deficit with a three-run home run to left-center field. Payano allowed three runs over five innings and struck out a season-high nine batters.

Luis Mendez led off the sixth inning with a double and Cantwell snapped an 0-for-26 with a single to put runners on the corners. Beck collected his second hit of the day down the right field line to plate both, and the Riders took a 4-3 lead.

Jefri Hernandez committed an error to begin the sixth inning, which allowed Alberth Martinez to reach. After back-to-back strikeouts, Jones singled to tie the game, 4-4. In the bottom of the eighth, Jones struck again, this time against Juan Grullon (0-2) with a two-run single to plate the eventual game winning runs and San Antonio (13-21, 44-60) snatched the series opener, 6-4.

The RoughRiders (17-15, 46-57) continue their seven game road trip on Friday against San Antonio with RHP Jose Leclerc (5-4) getting the nod against RHP Ronald Herrera (0-0). The team returns to Dr Pepper Ballpark on August 6 to play 10 games over an 11 day span.
