San Antonio Missions News Release

Duanel Jones' two-run single in the bottom of the eighth was the difference as San Antonio rallied past Frisco 6-4 in Thursday night's series opener at Wolff Stadium.

The RoughRiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first Thursday courtesy of a Trever Adams sacrifice fly off starter Dennis O'Grady.

Frisco pushed its lead to two in the top of the fourth when Drew Robinson scored from third on an error by second baseman Taylor Lindsey.

For awhile, the Missions had no answer for 'Riders' lefty Victor Payano, who allowed just one hit through his first four innings. In the fifth, however, San Antonio finally got the offense revved up, taking a 3-2 lead on one swing of the bat by Diego Goris. It was just the second, three-run homer of the season for the Missions.

Frisco responded right away in the top of the sixth, retaking the lead on Preston Beck's two-run double off reliever Brandon Alger.

In the bottom of the frame, the Missions answered again, tying the game at four on a Jones single up the middle off reliever Jefri Hernandez.

The score would remain the same until the eighth, when the Missions put together another rally, this time against lefty Juan Grullon. After Grullon (0-2) retired first batter Benji Gonzalez on a fly ball to left, the Missions loaded the bases with consecutive singles by Alberth Martinez, Hunter Renfroe and Yeison Asencio. That brought up Jones, who put San Antonio in the lead for good when he ripped a two-run base knock into left-center field.

Tayron Guerrero worked around a two-out single by Zach Cone in the ninth to notch his 12th save. Adam Cimber (4-2) earned the win for San Antonio with two scoreless innings of one-hit ball.

San Antonio (13-21, 44-60) resumes its four-game series against Frisco (17-16, 46-57) Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Ronald Herrera (0-0, 4.50) will take the hill for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Jose Leclerc (5-4, 4.18). The first 1,500 fans to enter Wolff Stadium Friday will receive a free replica batting practice cap courtesy of IPAC Nissan.
