Paxton Joins Generals; Paredes Activated; Vasquez, Fields To Tacoma

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 1, 2011 - The Jackson Generals have made the following roster moves prior to tonight's 7:05 pm game against the Chattanooga Lookouts at Pringles Park. LHP Anthony Vasquez and RHP Josh Fields have been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma. LHP James Paxton has been promoted from Low-A Clinton to the Jackson roster. Also, LHP Edward Paredes has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Jackson.

PAXTON, 22, a Midwest League All-Star this season, is 3-3 with a 2.73 ERA (17 ER in 56.0 IP, 30 walks and a team-high 80 strikeouts (a 12.86 strikeouts per 9.0 IP average). Seattle's 4th round pick in 2010 out of the University of Kentucky, Paxton will represent the World squad in the Futures Game on Sunday, July 10 at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ. Paxton has three double-digit strikeout performances this season. He struck out 10 batters over 6.0 IP in his third career start, a no-decision vs. Wisconsin on 5/13 (WIS won, 3-2) and set a new career high just two starts later as he struck out 12 in a 7-1 win at Cedar Rapids on 5/24 and broke that record with 13 strikeouts over 6.1 innings in 5-1 win over Quad Cities.

VASQUEZ, 24 has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma. Vasquez leads the Generals with 100.1 innings pitched. Vasquez posted a 5-7 record for the Generals with a 3.77. Vasquez struck out 59 and walked 19 in his team leading 16 starts this season.

FIELDS, 25 has been with the Jackson club since he was drafted in 2009 in the 1st round by the Mariners. Fields made 20 appearances this season. Posting a 1-2 record, with a 2.77 ERA. Fields struck out 26 and walked 9. He had 3 saves.

PAREDES, 24 was designated for assignment Wednesday and removed from the Mariners 40-man roster. Paredes cleared waivers and has been added to the Jackson roster.
