Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - A four-game win streak came to a close for the BayBears on Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium as they were limited by Matt Moore and the Montgomery Biscuits in a 5-2 loss.
Moore (6-3) tossed a no-hitter in his last start at "The Hank", but he wouldn't have the opportunity again as A.J. Pollock smashed a triple into left-center field to start the bottom of the first. Pollock scored on a sac fly from Jake Elmore to give the BayBears (43-36, 5-4) the early cushion.
Montgomery (38-41, 4-5) came right back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second against Patrick Corbin (6-5). Cole Figueroa walked and eventually scored on a double play grounder off the bat of Isaias Velasquez.
Corbin lasted six frames while striking out four. He maintained the 1-1 tie until the fifth when John Shelby led off with a two-base hit and came home on a single from Tim Beckham. Beckham stole second before crossing the plate on a two-out by Henry Wrigley, putting the Biscuits up by a pair.
Greg Sexton added a sixth-inning solo homer while Shawn O'Malley singled to start the seventh and advanced to third on a two-base error via a botched rundown. Stephen Vogt lifted a sac fly to right, scoring O'Malley to close the Montgomery scoring.
Moore worked seven innings while holding the BayBears to a run on five knocks. He fanned eight. Frank De Los Santos uncorked an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth as Pollock scored on a Shelby error in left. Matt Bush (S, 3) allowed a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth to Ed Easley but induced a popout from pinch-hitter Ollie Linton to end the contest.
BayBear pitchers struck out five batters in the ballgame to help raise $1,500 in donations to Penelope House in an effort to strike out domestic violence. For more information, visit www.penelopehouse.org.
The BayBears are home on Saturday night to battle the Biscuits in the fifth of their six-game series at 7:05. Right-hander Jarrod Parker (5-6) will start against fellow righty Chris Archer (3-3). Independence Weekend festivities will continue at "The Hank" and last through Sunday.
