
PawSox Split Series with Tides

A single by Lars Anderson in the second inning and one by Nate Sears in the ninth gave the PawSox their only hits of the game. They were held scoreless and to two hits by the Tides in the game at McCoy Stadium. Norfolk (22-31) went on to win the game 2-0. Tides scored on a solo homerun by Lew Ford (3) in the top of the first inning and scored once more in the top of the seventh when Ford scored on a wild pitch by Alex Wilson. The PawSox split the 4-game series with Norfolk and move on to 34-21.
Continuing his rehab with the PawSox, Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1) threw 5.3 innings gave up one run and two hits while striking out four in his second start. Matsuzaka continues to look sharp as he strengthens his arm back after undergoing Tommy John surgery a little less than a year ago. "I felt good out there today and I didn't have to focus on my body but on my pitching and the competition," Matsuzaka on how he felt his performance was tonight. "The injury is a gradual process but I am getting to focus on the batters now."
In his last two starts he has allowed just three hits and one run in 10.1 innings and the opponents are batting just .091. After giving up a homerun to Ford (3) in the first inning, Matsuzaka settled in and held the Tides to one run. After coming out on the fifth, Matsuzaka said, "I was surprised when he (Arnie) came to the mound because I didn't think I had thrown that many pitches; I felt strong." It continues to be a step by step process to get back in pitching shape and in determining his next start for Boston.
Starter Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2) took the loss for the Pawsox as Chris Tillman (4-7) picked up the win for the Tides.
The PawSox travel to Allentown, PA tomorrow to begin a wrap-around 4-game weekend series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The series starts tomorrow (Friday) and will go through Monday to account for the 4-game road trip.
Scott Elarton (5-2, 3.44) will face Brandon Duckworth (5-1, 4.22) in Friday's game. They return to McCoy Stadium for another 8-game homestand from June 5-12. They will host the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) Tuesday - Friday all games at 7:05 p.m. For the second half of the homestand they will host the Gwinnett Braves for a 4-game series starting Saturday, June 9 with a 6:05 p.m. game followed by an afternoon game on Sunday at 1:05 and a pair of night games June 11 and 12 (both at 7:05) to complete the series.
