Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) - Jordan Danks, Tyler Kuhn, Brent Morel and Ozzie Martinez each had two hits, Matt Zaleski tossed six shutout innings, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Rochester Red Wings 5-1 on Thursday in the finale of their four-game series at Knights Stadium. The win for Charlotte ended their homestand on a high note and they finished it with a 6-2 record over the eight-game stretch. Charlotte also improved to 18-9 at home this season and split the series with the Red Wings after sweeping the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Zaleski (2-2, 5.97) allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out a season-high six batters. Thursday's win was his first since April 29.
Offensively, the Knights belted out 13 hits and Danks continued his offensive outburst. The Austin, TX native roped his 12th double of the season and extended his hit-streak to 13 games. He hit .299 with four of his six home runs in the month of May.
Morel, who was playing in his second rehab game with the Knights, went 2-4 with one run scored. It was the second day in-a-row that Morel had two hits for Charlotte. The former Knight is working his way back from a lumbar back strain. He played all nine innings in the field and also came up with a solid defensive play.
With the win and a Gwinnett Braves loss on Thursday, Charlotte (30-25) is now just 2.5 games out of first place in the IL South Division. The Knights will now hit the road for just two games and make the trek to Gwinnett to take on the G-Braves. LHP Charlie Leesman (4-4, 2.39) will take the ball for Charlotte in game one, while Gwinnett will counter with RHP Jair Jurrjens (3-2, 4.85) - a National League All-Star last season with Atlanta.
Charlotte returns to Knights Stadium on Sunday for a quick two-game homestand against Gwinnett. Monday's game features an appearance by members of the Carolina Panthers. They will be on-hand to take batting practice and sign autographs for fans. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
