Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls built an early lead but couldn't hang on, falling 5-4 to the Pawtucket Red Sox Wednesday night at the DBAP. Josh Smith (5-2) recorded the victory for the Red Sox, while Austin Pruitt (3-3) suffered the loss for the Bulls.

After a slow game on Tuesday, the Bulls offense got off to a hot start with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kean Wong drove in the first run on an RBI triple, and Jesus Sanchez drove in Wong to make it 2-0. Kevin Padlo extended the lead to 3-0 on an RBI double, but was thrown out at home trying to extend the lead further.

The Red Sox mounted a comeback in the third inning, when Chris Owings hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to one. Rusney Castillo immediately followed up the Owings home run with a solo blast of his own, tying the game at 3.

Tzu-Wei Lin delivered a lead for the Red Sox in the sixth inning, thanks to a two-run double to take a 5-3 advantage. The Bulls responded with a Jason Coats solo home run to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the inning, however the Bulls couldn't complete the comeback, with Travis Lakins locking down the save for Pawtucket.

The Bulls and Red Sox will battle for a final time Thursday night at 7:05 at the DBAP, before welcoming the Buffalo Bisons for a three-game series. Left-hander Anthony Banda will take the hill for the Bulls and face off against Red Sox left-hander Kyle Hart.
