Pats at Prince Albert Gameday Preview

January 9, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release

Game #44

Wednesday, January 9th

Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m.

Regina Pats (18-21-2-2) Prince Albert Raiders (24-14-0-4)

Head-to-Head

The eve of the WHL Trade Deadline marks the sixth time these teams square off. The Pats hold the better of the season series with three wins in the five games including two straight and a 5-2 win on the weekend. Morgan Klimchuk is the top Pat in the series with six points (1G, 5A) in the five games. Three Raiders have five points against Regina to lead the way offensively for the opposition (Josh Morrissey, Anthony Bardaro and Mike Winther). The Pats are on a roll as they come towards the trade deadline having won five straight including their sweep of a three-in-three weekend. The Raiders look to snap a three game slide as the deadline approaches. Tonight's game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show at 6:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Pats Complete Three-in-Three Sweep

Playing their third game in three nights, the Pats looked slow out of the gate and found themselves trailing in the second period. Some timely penalty killing seemed to spark the team, and a late second period powerplay goal from Lane Scheidl sent the game to the third in a one-all draw. In the final period, Colton Jobke scored on a long shot with Patrick D'Amico setting a screen in front and Morgan Klimchuk added an empty netter to seal the Pats 3-1 victory.

Fourth Line Production

The Pats fourth line has had no small part in their recent success. Pat D'Amico, Braden Christoffer and Connor Gay have earned increased ice time with their contribution to the Pats' lineup. In their last two games, the line has produced three of the Pats eight goals and has a combined plus eight rating.

Dropping the Mitts

The Pats haven't had any shortage of willing combatants when it comes to fighting this season. The Blue and White sit second in the WHL with 50 fighting majors on the season. Only Calgary has more with 56.

Who to Watch on Prince Albert

The Raiders get three players back from international tournaments this evening. Mark McNeil (CAN) and Leon Draisaitl (GER) both return from the World Juniors while Tim Vanstone (WST) is back from Quebec and the U17 Challenge.
