Patriots winning streak hits road block

Bridgewater, NJ - The Road Warriors defeated the Somerset Patriots 3-1 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening to end Somerset's five game winning streak.

The Road Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Third baseman Nick Ortiz singled, stole second base, and scored on first baseman Mike Huggins' RBI single.

The Patriots tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Second baseman George Sandel singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI double by shortstop Kevin Nicholson.

The Road Warriors regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning on a solo home run by second baseman Teuris Olivares (2) to make the score 2-1.

The Road Warriors added a run to extend the lead to 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run by Huggins (1).

Road Warriors reliever Cesar Herrera (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Patriots reliever Todd Moser (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on one hit in one inning pitched. Julio Guerrero earned his first save of the season for the Road Warriors with two scoreless innings pitched.

The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, May 19th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Atlantic City Surf. The game includes a Fireworks Show presented by St. Peters University Hospital and Mets Night presented by BC Sports.
