Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 11, 2006) - With the score knotted at five and two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Kevin Haverbusch dropped a single into shallow center to score Mel Stocker and give the Ducks a 6-5 victory over the Atlantic City Surf on Thursday evening.
Down 5-2 heading into the home half of the sixth, Long Island put up a three-spot to knot the game at five in the bottom of the frame. Strong pitching by relievers Tony Runion, Todd Erdos and Mike Crudale set the stage for the game's dramatic finish.
Crudale (1-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless tenth. Atlantic City's Domingo Acosta took the loss after allowing a run on four hits in two innings. Ducks starter Pat Ahearne did not factor into the decision after allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings of work. Runion came on in relief and struck out three in two scoreless frames and Erdos struck out the side in the ninth.
