Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, NJ - May 11, 2006 - A bear has been sighted wandering the streets of Newark and hanging out in backyards of houses in Livingston. Could it be? What is a bear doing in the middle of the largest city in New Jersey and in the calmest areas of Livingston? Wait a minute! It's Newark Bears mascot Rip 'N Ruppert.

Ruppert has been spotted on camera on Vailsburg Rd. in Newark, NJ, and in the backyard of a fine established family household lounging around in Livingston. Ruppert, who spent last week at his original house, Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, to kick off the 2006 season, had so much fun meeting all the new faces who came out opening weekend, he decided to go visit their homes.

The Newark Bears would like to warn you to be careful. If you're too friendly to Ruppert, he will not want to leave your house, and the Bears will not have a mascot for the remainder of the season. Also, don't take aim at him either, remember he is a friendly bear just looking to meet new people and make new friends.

The Newark Bears will complete their five-game road trip this evening against the Camden Riversharks at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey beginning tonight at 7:05 pm. This weekend the Bears begin a six-game home stand with three games against the Atlantic City Surf, and three games against the Road Warriors. Friday, May 12 will feature X-Men night, with a special appearance by Wolverine, and post-game fireworks spectacular. On Saturday, May 13 the first 1,500 children (14 and under) will receive a Ruppert growth chart presented by Sports Care Institute, and on Sunday, May 14 Mothers may enter the stadium for free starting at 11:35 am by showing their Mother's Day cards, and receive free breakfast cooked by Bears General Manager John Brandt. All women in attendance on Sunday may participate in the post-game diamond hunt presented by Carbo International Jewelers.
