
Patriots silence Barnstormers

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots shut out the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-0 before 6,450 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Patriots broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Third baseman Pat Boran doubled and came around to score on an RBI double by shortstop Nick Ortiz.
Somerset added four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-0 lead. Center fielder Edgard Clemente singled and scored on an RBI double by first baseman Travis Anderson. Second baseman George Sandel followed with an RBI double to plate Anderson. Catcher Fernando Lunar then singled and Boran reached on a walk. Designated hitter Henri Stanley then drove home Lunar with an RBI single and Boran would score on an error on the same play.
Patriots starter Keith Ramsey (5-6) picked up the win, allowing just two hits and striking out five in seven scoreless innings pitched. Lancaster starter Eric Ackerman (5-4) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Saturday night against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Saturday's game includes Mini-Frisbees for the first 2,000 fans in attendance courtesy of Harborside Healthcare.
