(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2006) - In his second start against his former team, Pat Ahearne picked up his first win against his former club while notching his 10th victory of the season as the Ducks topped the Bluefish, 10-1, on Thursday evening.
Through nine innings of work, the former Bluefish yielded an unearned run on five hits while striking out three and walking none. The sinkerballer faced just four batters over the minimum total and got 16 groundouts.
With a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third, the Ducks offense gave Ahearne a comfortable cushion to work with, exploding for five runs on five hits before adding a pair in the sixth to wrap their scoring at 10.
The Ducks 14-hit evening was led by Mel Stocker who finished the evening 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Erick Almonte drove in three. The former Yankee hit his eighth home run of the season in the game's opening frame.
On Friday, the Ducks head to Atlantic City to open up a four-game set at 6:35 p.m. Kevin Mannix (0-0) will make his first start of the season against Andy High (6-6). Chris King will call all the action live from Bernie Robbins Stadium starting at 6:20 p.m. on WLIE (540 AM) Radio. Duck Tales...Pat Ahearne became the fourth pitcher in Ducks history to record 10 wins in a single season with his complete game victory. The righty at one point set down 16 straight...Erick Almonte homered for the second time in three games and added a double going 2-for-4 with three RBI's...With his run-scoring single in the third, Bucky Jacobsen collected his league-leading 80th RBI of the 2006 campaign, and now has plated a run in four straight games...This evening's crowd of 5,834 raises the total to 2,977,412 fans that have enjoyed baseball at Citibank Park since April of 2000...The Ducks now need 22,588 fans to reach the 3,000,000 mark.
