ATLANTIC CITY - The Atlantic City Surf rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Long Island Ducks 6-4 Friday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium. Atlantic City used a three-run homer by Ozzie Timmons and two-run blast by Clyde Williams in the eighth off Long Island reliever Mike Crudale to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 victory. Atlantic City is now 20-18 in the second half; 53-48 overall. Long Island is 18-19 in the second half; 57-43 overall. The game began as a pitcher's duel between Atlantic City's Andy High and Long Island's Kevin Mannix. The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and it stayed that way until Joe Jiannetti tied with a solo home run off Jim Mann in the seventh. But the Ducks roared back to score three runs in the seventh inning with the big blow being a triple down the left field line by Kevin Haverbush off High. High worked seven innings and gave up six hits. Mannix, making his first start for Long Island, worked six innings and allowed six hits and no runs. Todd Marcotte, 1-0. picked up the victory for Atlantic City and Crudale, 5-4, was tagged with the loss for Long Island. Ben Grevzlovski picked up his 10th save of the season for Atlantic City. Timmons was 3-for- 4 with three RBI for Atlantic City and Haverbush was 2-for-4 with three RBI for Long Island. The two teams meet again on Saturday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium at 6:35 p.m. where the Surf's Mark Persails will face the Ducks Pete Hartman. The Chicken will entertain.
