Somerset Patriots News Release
Manchester, New Hampshire - The Somerset Patriots (6-3) carried strong pitching and some timely hitting to a 6-1 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (3-6) at Delta Dental Stadium Thursday night.
The game was scoreless through the first five innings. Somerset starter Janson Junk tossed 3.1 scoreless innings to begin the night, allowing two hits and striking out six batters.
JP Sears (W, 1-0) followed Junk out of the bullpen and limited the Fisher Cats to one run over 4.1 innings of relief with seven strikeouts. It marked the longest relief appearance and tied for the most strikeouts in a single appearance for a Patriots pitcher this season.
Offensively, Thomas Milone (3) opened the scoring in the top of the sixth with a leadoff home run. It marked the second time in three days Milone led off an inning with a home run. He finished the night 2-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
Somerset added four more runs in the top of the eighth for insurance. Michael Beltre lined an RBI triple down the right field line before three run-scoring wild pitches later in the frame increased the Patriots lead to 5-0.
After the Fisher Cats got a run back on an Otto Lopez two-out RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, Somerset scratched together an unearned run on a Lopez fielding error in the 9th to finish off the evening's scoring.
Joe Harris (L, 0-1) took the loss for New Hampshire after he allowed one run over two innings of relief.
The Patriots continue their six-game series in New Hampshire Friday night. Righty Glen Otto (0-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Fisher Cats righty Maximo Castillo (0-0, 9.00 ERA). First pitch at Delta Dental Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
