The Reading Fightin Phils dropped game three to the Bowie Baysox falling 9 to 3 on Thursday. The R-Phils had their bats in action as they powered numerous extra base hits scattered throughout the game, but were unable to come up with the victory.

The Fightins threatened early in the first but did not make their mark until the third. Matt Vierling led off the inning with a double and Daniel Brito singled him across. McCarthy Tatum powered a two bagger up the left field line to score Brito. Then in the top of the fifth Reading added on with a home run off the bat of Nick Matera, his first of the season. The team had a couple other chances, but left important runners on the base paths.

Manager Shawn Williams handed the ball to Kyle Glogoski for his first Double-A start, although he made his season debut in Lehigh Valley. Glogoski went 2.1 allowing five hits and four runs, three earned. Joel Cesar was called for quick relief and got out of the third with no runs or hits. The ball was then handed to Mark Appel who was in a jam from loading the bases on walks. Appel got himself out of trouble, not letting any runs score. Tyler Carr took the sixth and seventh striking out two but allowing three across the plate including a homer. Austin Ross came in to finish the job and, after allowing a two-run shot, struck out the side.

The Baysox began scoring in the first as a three-run shot from Patrick Dorrian plated Adley Rutschman and Robert Neustrom.

In the second an RBI double from Terrin Vavra scored Zach Jarrett. They had opportunities in the third and fifth but were stopped by the Fightins pitching staff. The Baysox tacked two more on in the sixth. The rest came through home runs. A solo shot from JC Escarra and a two run off of Vavra made it 9 to 3.

Cameron Bishop got the start for Bowie going a full four innings letting up seven hits and three earned runs. Tyler Joyner appeared in relief allowing no runs on two hits. Diogenes Almengo took the ball in the eighth and didn't allow any across.

Bowie handed it off to Nick Vespi for the final three outs.
