
Patriots fall to Pride, 5-4

Bridgewater, NJ - The Nashua Pride defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-4 before 4,947 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
Nashua got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning. First baseman Brian Becker singled, shortstop Joe Kilburg singled, and both runners moved up on a fielder's choice and error. Third baseman Shane Hopper grounded into a double play that allowed Becker to score and catcher Mike Torres' RBI single scored Kilburg to give the Pride a 2-0 lead.
The Patriots answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Center fielder Jeremy Owens led off the inning with a solo home run (20) to left center field to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Pride extended the lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Kilburg singled, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Torres to make the score 3-1.
Somerset cut the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-2. Owens singled, stole second base, and scored on shortstop Kevin Nicholson's RBI double to right center field.
Nashua put another run on the board in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by right fielder Jimmy Hurst (18) to give the Pride a 4-2 lead.
The Patriots tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Ryan Radmanovich singled, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI double by Nicholson. Catcher Fernando Lunar's RBI single plated Nicholson to tie the game later in the inning.
The Pride regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by designated hitter Glenn Murray (22) to make it a 5-4 game.
Pride reliever Jason Blanton (6-1) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits in an inning pitched. Patriots reliever Tim Christman (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on one hit in two innings pitched. Cam Esslinger earned his eighth save for Nashua with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.
The 2005 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Nashua Pride. Saturday's game includes a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Gotta Dance.
