Red Deer Rebels News Release
SASKATOON - The Red Deer Rebels gave defenceman MATT DUMBA and good going away gift: a 3-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades Friday night. It was Dumba's last game before he heads off to the Minnesota Wild training camp this weekend.
First period Red Deer got on the scoreboard first when Dominik Volek scored on the rebound. The Rebels brought the puck into the Blade zone and Saskatoon goaltender had to make a nice glove save but came up two rebounds - one landing on Volek's stick, who made no mistake. The Blades thought they had tied the score when Saskatoon's Lukas Sutter came out of the penalty box and hit the post. The goal light flashed red, but when it was under video review, it clearly showed the puck never did enter the net.
Second period The Rebels had a good road period, and showed good jump. It paid off: nine minutes into the period, RHYSE DEINO grabbed the puck in front of the Blade goal and ripped one that went upstairs to put the Rebels up by a pair. TURNER ELSON zoomed down the right wing and threaded the puck through the pads of Andrey Makarov midway through the period to make it 3-0.
Saskatoon cut the lead to 3-1 when Graeme Craig - who played minor hockey in Red Deer - scored from the point for his first of the season
Third period Nobody scored. But there was plenty of action, especially at the Rebels own when the Blades were pressing. But Patrik Bartosak was stellar in goal, making several unbelievable saves. But when the buzzer buzzed to end things, the Rebels put in a gritty effort for a good road win.
