Patrice Bernier to be Honoured at Stade Saputo on August 20
August 8, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Monday that the Club will honour its former captain Patrice Bernier at its next home game at Stade Saputo against the New England Revolution on Saturday, August 20 at 7:30pm.
Inducted into Canada Soccer's Hall of Fame on June 9 during a Nations League match against Curaçao, the Club will be recognizing this achievement at halftime.
New England was the last team Bernier played against in MLS on October 22, 2017. On that day, he also scored the 20th and final regular season goal of his career on a penalty kick (MLS and pre-MLS).
"I have known Patrice for more than 25 years and I have been privileged to play alongside him at the amateur, university and professional levels with both the Impact and on the national team," said CF Montréal President and CEO Gabriel Gervais. "He has given a lot to soccer and the community, both provincially and nationally. He fully deserves this honour. I am proud that one of our own, a former captain who made history with the Club, is being added to the list of greats immortalized in the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame."
In six seasons in MLS (2012-2017), he played 151 regular season games and eight playoff fixtures, collecting 15 goals and 28 assists. He was named the Club's Most Valuable Player and Humanitarian Player in 2012 and was an MLS All-Star in 2013. Club captain from 2014 to 2017, his achievements included helping the team win the Canadian Championship in 2013 and 2014 and reaching the Concacaf Champions League final in 2015.
His professional career in Montreal began in 2000 and later led him to a 10-year stint across Europe where he played in Germany, Norway, and Denmark. Bernier also played 56 games with the Canadian national team. He was inducted into the Quebec Soccer Hall of Fame on November 25, 2017.
