Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Parkview Field will play host to a free community event on Memorial Day - Monday, May 27th . Beginning at 6:00pm, the ballpark will be the venue for a very special screening of Honor Flight, a documentary that follows the emotional journey of a group of World War II veterans that make the life-changing trip to Washington D.C. to view the World War II Memorial.
Honor Flight documents the practice of communities around the country that give World War II veterans the chance, at no cost to them, to fly to Washington D. C. and view the World War II Memorial, opened in 2004.
Locally, the Honor Flight Northeast Indiana organization flies area veterans to see the World War II Memorial. This year alone they will send three planes to Washington D.C. Designated as a 501c3 charity, this not-for-profit fundraises throughout the year to make these flights possible for the veterans that might not otherwise have this unique opportunity.
"They deserve this," said Honor Flight Northeast Indiana Board President, Bob Myer. "They served our country to protect not only the freedoms of this country, but the freedoms of people all over the world.
Having the ability to take a day and bring them to Washington D.C. to see the memorial, built to honor those that served in World War II, is the very least we can do to show our appreciation."
The film, Honor Flight, will be shown on the Parkview Field video board the night of Memorial Day - Monday, May 27th . Following a pre-movie ceremony, that will include tributes from area leaders, the 90-minute documentary will take viewers on the journey of one remarkable group of veterans as they prepare and experience their Honor Flight.
"This is a remarkable film," said Michael Limmer, TinCaps Vice President. "When Honor Flight Northeast Indiana approached us about screening this film at Parkview Field we jumped at the chance. It is a powerful movie and I can't wait for the public to have the chance to experience it themselves."
Admission to this event will be free. Donation opportunities will be available for those wanting to support the mission of Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.
