
Bowling Green Beats Captains 6-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Bowling Green, KY) - Bowling Green (23-12) scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated Lake County (12-22) 6-1 on Monday Afternoon. Andrew Toles doubled and scored on a single by Joey Rickard to open the scoring a 1-0. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly scored Tyler Goeddel and the score was 2-0 Hot Rods. In the final two game of the series the Captains were outscored 14-1 and had just five hits.
A three run fifth inning, by Bowling Green, gave the Hot Rods command of the ballgame. BG used four hits including a two run double by Joey Rickard, who had four total RBI, and scored three runs to take a 5-0 lead.
In the seventh, Andrew Toles tripled and scored on a single by Rickard and it was 6-0. Lake County got on the board in the ninth inning when Erik Gonzalez hit his second Homerun of the season, a solo shot and the score was 6-1. That was the final score of the ballgame.
LHP Ryan Merritt (1-3) started the game for the Captains. Merritt lasted five innings and took the loss. Merritt allowed five hits, five total runs, three earned runs, he walked six and struck out two. Josh Martin pitched the final three innings for the Captains. Martin allowed one run on three hits over three innings of relief.
RHP Jeff Ames (5-0) started for Bowling Green. Ames earned the win. Ames pitched six scoreless innings and allowed two hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Brandon Henderson pitched two scoreless innings with one walk. Nick Sawyer pitched the ninth inning for Bowling Green and allowed the HR to Gonzalez.
The home stand begins Tuesday evening when the Captains welcome Cleveland Browns linebacker Craig Robertson to Classic Park as part of Dawg Night Tuesdays. Throughout the season Dawg Nights feature appearances by former and current Cleveland Browns players. Robertson signed as non-drafted free agent in 2012 out of North Texas University. He appeared in all 16 games during the 2012 season and was second on the team with 93 tackles and third with 62 solo tackles. He will throw out a ceremonial first pitch and be available for autographs before and during the Captains game that night.
Also on Tuesday, the first 500 kids 12 and under in attendance will receive a full-size Webkinz plush dog. This is the third in a series of six different Webkinz dogs that will be given away at Tuesday games throughout the 2013 season.
Lake County will start RHP Michael Peoples (1-2, 1.96) and Lansing will counter with RHP Javier Avendano (2-2, 5.13) First pitch is at 6:30 PM
