Papineau Reassigned to Worcester

Worcester, MA- It was announced this afternoon by the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL) that Justin Papineau has been reassigned from the Blues to the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Currently in his third season as a member of the IceCats, the 5'11" Papineau is fourth in IceCats scoring with 36 points. The Ottawa, Ontario native has garnered a team high 20 goals and 16 assists in 40 games: 40(20/16/36). A third round selection by the Blues in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Justin notched his first career NHL point, an assist, on February 11th in Buffalo. He skated in two games in early December, recording no points.

A member of the 2003 AHL Canadian All-Star Team, Justin was the winner of the CCM Fastest Skater Competition during the AHL Skills Competition. He edged out current Worcester teammate Sergei Varlamov with a time of 14.57 seconds. Varlamov finished second. During the All-Star game, he potted one goal, his second in as many years.

The 23 year-old centerman became the IceCats All-Time leading goal scorer on January 5th, 2003. Last season he finished tied with former teammate and current Blue, Eric Boguniecki, with a League leading 38 goals.
