Bruins Comeback Sinks 'Cats

WORCESTER, MA - The IceCats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Darren VanOene and the Providence Bruins stormed back to gain a 5-2 win.

VanOene's natural hat trick in the second period led the Bruins comeback. Andy Hilbert scored Providence's other goals.

Worcester's effort in the first period found them up 2-0 on goals by Blake Evans and Sergei Varlamov. Jason Dawe assisted on both goals, which came at 6:28 and 8:21. Evans' power play goal was his first point since February 1st, while Varlamov now has points in seven of his last eight games.

'Cats goaltender Curtis Sanford was lifted in favor of Cody Rudkowsky after allowing Van Oene's hat trick goal at 10:44 of the second period. Sanford stopped 16 of 20, while Rudkowsky turned away seven of eight.

The 'Cats travel to Springfield this Friday for a 7:35 PM match with the Falcons. Saturday sees them in Manchester at 2:05 PM vs. the Monarchs. Worcester returns home versus Portland on February 28, when the Stanley Cup makes an appearance at Worcester's Centrum Centre.
