San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO â Aug. 25, 2004 â The Florida Panthers, the parent club of the San Antonio Rampage, announced today the club has re-signed center Vaclav Nedorost (VA-tslav neh-DOHR-uhst) to a one-year deal. In addition, the Panthers announced that the club signed unrestricted free agent netminder Patrick DesRochers (duh-RAWSH-ay) to a one-year deal.
Nedorost, 22, appeared 21 games for the Rampage last season and recorded 15 points (9-6-15). He spent the majority of last season with the Panthers, appearing in 32 games and notching seven points (4-3-7). The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Budejovice, Czech Republic has played in 99 career regular season NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche (2001-03) and Florida compiling 10 goals and 10 assists.
"Vaclav is a highly skilled young player who we are glad to have back," said Panthers General Manager Mike Keenan. "He had the opportunity to play some games with our club last season, and we look for him to continue to build and develop into a fine player."
The Panthers acquired Nedorost on July 19, 2003 in a trade with Colorado. He was originally drafted by Colorado with its first choice (14th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
DesRochers, 24, appeared in 50 games with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, posting a 2.92 goals against average and recording a professional career high 23 wins. For his NHL career, he has played in 11 games with the Phoenix Coyotes (2001-03) and the Carolina Hurricanes (2002-03).
"Patrick is a talented young goalie who is still developing," Keenan said. "He is an experienced minor league goaltender, who also has had the opportunity to play at the NHL level. He brings to our organization added depth at the goaltender position."
A first round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes (14th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft), DesRochers spent parts of four seasons with both Phoenix and its AHL affiliate in Springfield, Mass. before being traded to Carolina on Dec. 31, 2002 in exchange for goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier.
The Rampage open their third AHL season on Fri., Oct. 15 against the Houston Aeros at 7 p.m. at the SBC Center. All regular season games can be heard on the Rampage's flagship station "The Ticket" 760 AM (subject to conflicts). Ticket packages for the Rampage's 2004-05 season are on sale now.
