Griffins get rolling for a cause

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Several members of the Grand Rapids Griffins organization will play a wheelchair basketball game against the Kentwood Rollers this Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Kentwood High School (6230 Kalamazoo), to help raise money for BlazeSports: City of Kentwood.

Current defenseman Travis Richards and long-time blueliner Dave Van Drunen will represent the Griffins organization, alongside equipment manager Brad Thompson, director of arena advertising sales Sean Wright and director of merchandising Jeff Gebben. Griff, the team's mascot, will also be on hand to cheer for the Griffins' squad.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and $3 for students, while children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.

Players from both teams will sign autographs after the game, and an auction held in conjunction with the event will feature several Griffins items and a hot air balloon ride, courtesy of RE/MAX.

BlazeSports: City of Kentwood is a program that provides year-round sports instruction and training for people with all types of physical disabilities. It is a local chapter of BlazeSports Clubs of America, a national community-based sports and fitness program for children and adults, and a direct legacy of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, the first ever held in the United States. BlazeSports: City of Kentwood currently offers many different programs, including adapted water skiing, youth wheelchair tennis, adapted golf and wheelchair basketball, and co-sponsors other adapted sports clinics in the area.
